Poetry Writing Workshop for Teachers and Teens on Tuesday, October 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Portage District Library/ 300 Library Lane/ Portage, Michigan 49002. Veteran public school and college teachers and published poets Janet Heller, Andrea England, and Anna Ill will provide students and teachers with fun exercises to get the poetic juices flowing. Open to teachers, teens, and community members. This workshop will help people to prepare for Friends of Poetry’s annual Poems that Ate Our Ears contest for children and teenagers. No experience necessary. Plenty of resources and inspiration to create wonderful poems in your classroom or community. Pizza and beverages provided. Poetry Reading in Nineteen Languages

Sunday, September 28, 2014—Janet Heller will read a poem by Chaim Guri during the Poetry Reading in Nineteen Languages at the Portage District Library from 2 to 3:30 p.m. This event is also sponsored by the Department of World Languages and Literatures of Western Michigan University. There will also be a tasting from several area international restaurants. Languages represented at this reading include Japanese, Arabic, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Icelandic, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Macedonian, Mandarin, Persian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, and Yoruba.
