Haiku Poem published by Blithe Spirit

I published one haiku in May. My haiku “Clouds and Ribs,” which is about a sunset, appeared in Blithe Spirit 34.2 (May 2024) on page 29. Blithe Spirit is the journal of the British Haiku Society, and Iliyana Stoyanova, who is great to work with, edits the publication. I wrote "Clouds and Ribs" decades ago and revised the poem. I was pleased to finally see it in print. I advise other writers never to give up: keep revising and sending out work until you find an editor who accepts your prose or poetry. One of my poems that I wrote in 1978 got published in 2018--that is forty years of sending it out and getting rejection notes. #haiku #poetry #revision Janet Ruth Heller speaking at the Kalamazoo Public Library; photo by Hedy Habra

Three Short Poems Published in March and April 2024

I published several poems in March and April of 2024. My senryu “Yoga Class” appeared in tsuri-dōrō #20 (March/April 2024) on page 31. The link is https://tsuridoro.org/issue-20-march-april-2024 Tony Pupello edits this online journal. My haiku “Sukkot Moon” appeared in Presence #78 (March 2024) on page 40. Ian Storr edits this journal, which is based in England. My tanka “Your Gentle Words” just got published in Ribbons 20.1 (Spring/Summer 2024) on page 40. The editor is Susan Weaver, and the Tanka Society of America sponsors this magazine. Tanka poems resemble haiku and senryu, but tanka poems use five lines instead of three lines. I enjoy the challenge of writing these short poems, which require concise language and well-chosen specific details. #senryu #haiku #tanka #poetry Janet Ruth Heller reading her poem at the Kalamazoo Poetry Festival in April 2024
